Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul spent some time in Central New York pushing the 'Red Flag' bill at Nottingham High School.

The proposal would allow police, school officials and relatives of gun owners to petition courts to seize guns from people who have shown signs they might hurt others.

Right now you cannot seize guns from someone who has not already been accused of criminal or family offenses.

New York would be the first state to give the right to petition to teachers and school administrators.

But, not everyone is on board. The NRA is fighting the proposal saying it doesn't allow for due process, and the burden of proof is low.

Governor Cuomo wants it to pass the state senate before the session ends on Wednesday.
