BUFFALO, N.Y. — Gov. Cuomo recently announced $22 million will be spent to secure affordable housing across New York State.

Many projects were submitted, but only four plans were given the green light in Buffalo.

Around $11 million will benefit the Queen City:

  • $1.7 million will go to the Cigar Factory Apartments on 595 Fillmore Avenue
  • $3.9 million to ELIM Townhouses on 129 Holden Street
  • $4.5 million to Westminster Commons on 421 Monroe Street
  • $858,000 will go toward Trinity One Apartments

The project “Mount Aaron Village,” whose plans consist of 78 units and 10 townhouses being built on Genesee and Adams Streets, did not make the final list for the state grant. But it’s still in the works.

Mount Aaron Baptist Church held a concert and fundraiser for the project Saturday, in hopes of expanding with the $24 million housing project.

“We have a lot of developers that came in, bought vacant lots and a good part of the East Side. Gentrification was pushing people out of their own neighborhoods. That’s why this project is so important,” said Pastor Dwayne Jones.
