One local barbeque stands out from countless others this Memorial Day weekend.

The 2nd Annual "Barbeque For The Homeless" kicked off Saturday at Billings Park in Syracuse.

Volunteers with 'Rise Above the Streets' came out to serve hundreds of people food and drinks that they normally wouldn't be able to have. The free event also included special treats for kids like popcorn and cotton candy.

Organizers say the event is important because the summer season comes with risks for heat exhaustion and dehydration, and can be a dangerous time for the homeless community.
