HASTINGS, N.Y. -- A family in Hastings lost their home to fire Wednesday morning.

The snow was flying as firefighters worked to put out flames at a residence on Bardeen Road.

Hastings Fire Chief Kevin Pooley says there were two people inside when the fire broke out.  They were woken up by their smoke detectors, were able to call 911 and get out.

It took crews about 45 minutes to knock down the flames, but the chief says, with the manpower they had, it was a good response.

"Went about as well as it could. Most of our district is not hydranted. This road here is hydrated.  Made it a little bit easier than what we're normally used to. So things went very, very well,” he said.

Six departments in all responded to the fire.  The Red Cross was notified, and will be offering their services to the two people who were displaced.
