Onondaga County Democrats chose their candidate to run for the 24th congressional district seat.

The committee voted Saturday to endorse Dana Balter, who will challenge Republican Congressman John Katko in the November election.

Balter is a professor at Syracuse University. She got the party's support over two other candidates, Scott Comegys and Anne Messenger.

Balter has now received the party's endorsement in all four 24th district counties -- Cayuga, Oswego, Wayne and Onondaga, and she says that means something.

"I think what we have seen over and over again is that voters are fed up with dysfunction, they are fed up with partisanship,” said Balter. “They want people who are willing to come together, work together to make progress for our communities. That's the message of this campaign; that's what it is about."

Party residents will officially vote for their nominee in June.
