SAUQUOIT, N.Y. -- Sauquoit Valley Central School students are mourning the loss of a beloved coach.

Longtime soccer and basketball coach Timothy Clive died Saturday. Clive spent decades at the school, but died this past weekend after battling cancer. He was 71 years old.

Students say that even as he had cancer, he would still come to games. Clive's daughter had passed away from cancer on Christmas Eve. He has a son who coaches at the school now.

Students said his legacy will live on.

"He was just overall a good person," student Allison Moreau said. "He didn't have just an effect on us players. He had an effect on the other team, too. Even if you talked to him for a short amount of time, he always gave good life lessons and stuff."

Students are planning on having a memorial soccer game for Clive in the future. Services in his memory are scheduled for later this week.
