A centerpiece in Watertown is being left out of a $10 million initiative.

Last week, city officials announced the Public Square proposal will not have a future in the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. Officials say the transformation is not ready to be considered for the funding.

The project planned to cut off the north or south end of the square, closing down traffic on one side and creating more parking spaces.

Some downtown business owners are actually excited that no changes will be made. Meanwhile, other business owners were hopeful the transformation would change traffic flow, bringing more customers to their businesses.

City officials plan to revisit the project in the future.
