RALEIGH -- A familiar face is returning to Wake County Public Schools.
Dr. Del Burns was selected and appointed as the interim superintendent by the school board Tuesday evening.
Burns was superintendent in Wake County from 2006 to 2010.
The news comes as the current superintendent Dr. Jim Merrill is set to retire at the end of the month.
Burns will start on February 1 and will carry out the duties of interim superintendent until the end of June which is when the board hopes to have a new full-time superintendent in place.
The school board hopes to announce a new superintendent in April.
