SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The investigation is underway in Syracuse Tuesday following an early morning homicide that has left one dead.

Authorities say they were called to the 300 block of Merriman Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday following reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they say they found 33-year-old James Smith Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound to his hip. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, and later died.
