HUTTO, Texas -- The Hippo Hut celebrated its first Thanksgiving by making a meal for the whole Hutto community.

The bar and grill made enough food to feed 150 people. All of the food was donated by the owners or by people who wanted to help.

"We have had lots of our customers donate money to go toward purchasing meats, we have had residents in Hutto dropping off pies," owner Jamie Church said.

Gina Lochner brought large servings of her sweet potato and broccoli casseroles.

"These are family tradition dishes," she said. "I take them every year to my family's house."

A musician even made the trek in from Houston to perform for the event Thursday evening. Nick Bakay said the warmth he feels from the crowd and owners here makes the trip worth it every time.

"I have played all kinds of places," he said. "I've played for all kinds of shows, all kinds of people from big to small, and this is really the only place where I feel like they care about you."

The Hippo Hut is also participating in this year's Coats for Kids. The charity event, put on by the Junior League of Austin, provides winter coats for more than 30,000 Central Texas youngsters.
