SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The former Onondaga County district attorney's investigator involved in a deadly hit-and-run is now off to prison, after an emotional sentencing in court Friday.

Peter Rauch was given 2 to 6 years behind bars, which was in line with the plea deal he accepted.

Before sentencing was handed down, prosecutors did request an enhanced sentence due to the nature of the case.

Rauch hit and killed 18-year-old Seth Collier on North Salina Street in Syracuse back on the morning March 21. In court, it was revealed that he had 16 drinks the night of the crash and was intoxicated at the time.

The DA said despite a plea deal, Rauch's position as a law enforcement officer, coupled with the indifference he showed the night of the crash, a stiffer penalty should have been imposed.

Seth Collier's mom also spoke, calling Rauch a coward for his actions that night.  She said Seth's 19th birthday just passed.

As for the defense, Peter Rauch did read a statement, apologizing to Collier family and taking responsibility for his actions.
