UTICA, N.Y. -- The man accused of killing a 25-year old Rome man in August pleaded not guilty.

Robert Coffin, 35, is facing charges of second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He's accused of shooting Thomas Shepherd Jr. on Woodrow Avenue, behind Sammy G's in Rome.

After a few weeks of searching, police found Coffin in Las Vegas.

Coffin now has to choose between accepting a plea offer or taking his case to trial. The defense attorney said there's allegedly a video of the incident. The prosecution wouldn't elaborate on what evidence they believe they have.

"We're going forward. We're continuing to investigate the case. It doesn't stop just with an arrest. We look into every angle and are still talking to witnesses and making sure we have everything in-line to go forward depending on where the case ends up," said Assistant District Attorney Michael Nolan.

Defense attorney Kurt Schultz did not want to comment out of respect to the victim's family and his client.

Coffin will return to court November 14 to accept or reject the plea offer.
