ONEIDA, N.Y. -- Lots of young baseball players got the chance to play with one of the game's greats, Saturday.

World Series Pitcher Bret Saberhagen took some time to throw the ball to young athletes in Oneida.

The event was put on by Oneida Youth Sport -Improvement and was open to the public.

Saberhagen says it feels good to be back on the east coast and inspiring kids.

"To be successful at anything in life, you've gotta work at it," Saberhagen said. "You've got to practice at it, and baseball is one of those things where if you want to be successful at it, you've got to give it the time and effort."

"It's always awesome to have an athlete in our presence that actually played in the real Major League Baseball," said Webster Potter, a baseball player.

Throughout his career, Saberhagan played for the Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and the Boston Red Sox.
