AUBURN, N.Y. --The city of Auburn hosts its Founders Day celebration and the streets were filled with vendors and live music.

This year also commemorates the Auburn Correctional Facility's 200th anniversary.

People could buy special merchandise like commemorative coins, t-shirts and hats that tell the facility's story.

The Cayuga Museum also had copies of the book, “Images of America - Auburn Prison."

A facility employee and unofficial historian says the facility has had a huge impact on the city.

"The facility has really served this community well," said Michael Pettigrass, Auburn Correctional Facility employee. "It's provided generations of employment and many people have been able to raise families on that and enjoy life in a small community like this and I think we're all better for that."

There was also an antique car show and bike ride.
