OWEGO, N.Y. -- Owego Elementary students celebrated one year inside their new school Friday.
Following the flood of 2011, students were split into multiple schools.
However, Friday, students celebrated inside their new building as a community.
The building is modern, offers more space, and cuts down on the time it takes to get kids to school.
The school principal says, sometimes good things come out of bad situations.
"I think, you know, in one year, you get used to your surroundings," said Laurie McKeveny, Owego Elementary Principal. "We're used to the building now. The kids know where everything is and there are just so many extra features that it's a real treat to be able to work here everyday and have our kids learn in this building."
The school was built on higher ground, to help avoid any flooding in the future.
The new building is also outfitted with state of the art technology.
