Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says she believes former President Bill Clinton should have resigned over his sexual affair with a White House intern.

Gillibrand made the comments during an interview with the New York Times.

Gillibrand helped campaign for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential race.

She also currently holds the senate seat vacated by Clinton.

In 1999, the House voted to impeach Clinton of perjury and obstructing their investigation into Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

The Senate acquitted him.

Gillibrand’s comments came on the day Senator Al Franken apologized after a Los Angeles radio anchor accused him of forcibly kissing and groping her back in 2006.

Gillibrand called Franken’s behavior "very disturbing."
