Alan Jones made parole and was released from behind bars after serving 10 years for the death of his 11-year-old stepsister, as confirmed by the Oswego County District Attorney.

Jones was sentenced to five-to-15 years for the strangling death of Erin Maxwell in their town of Palermo home in 2008.

Jones' original sentence of murder was reduced in 2012 to manslaughter. This was the third time he had applied for parole.

Jones was released Thursday from the Wallkill Correctional Facility, in Orange County.
