An Oneida woman has pleaded guilty to charges connected to the death of her baby daughter more than a year ago.

In January of last year, police responded to Lenox Avenue in Oneida after reports of a baby girl not breathing. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her mother, Mandy Pope, was charged with second-degree manslaughter after a lengthy investigation. She also faced charges in a separate incident, promoting prostitution in the second degree and endangering the wefare of a child.

But, Pope pleaded guilty Wednesday to lesser charges in both cases.

Very few details have been released surrounding how the child died.

"No one has ever said that she intentionally caused the death of her daughter. But what she admitted to today was that she didn't exercise the appropriate due care and as a consequence of that, her daughter died," said defense attorney John Raspante.

As part of this plea agreement, Pope will spend up to six years in state prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for April 16.
