The city of Newburgh recently discovered elevated levels of lead in the water for some homes and businesses, and it's far from the only municipality with this problem.

In many cases, the source is the service line that connects a building to the water supply.

So the state has spent about 20 million dollars in the last two years to replace service lines.

But before the next round of budget negotiations begins, environmental organizations and labor groups are encouraging the governor to invest even more in lead mitigation.
