State Senate Democrats have a lot of bills they want to pass in January when they take control of the chamber. Many of them are measures that have already passed the Assembly multiple times, like the New York Health Act, which would create a single-payer health care system in the state. But the part of that legislation that is still not finalized is how to pay for it. which means there is still a lot of negotiating that needs to happen before the issue can truly move forward.

Senator Gustavo Rivera is ranking member of the Senate Health Committee and is a sponsor of the bill.
