Andrea Stewart-Cousins is the first woman elected as majority leader of the New York state Senate. Come January, she'll lead a diverse conference that could have as many as 40 members in the 63-person chamber. And she'll break up the storied "three men in a room" style of negotiating the state budget.

Meanwhile, one of the men in that room, Governor Cuomo, is planning to head to Washington to meet with President Trump. Cuomo says he has a "tenative" meeting scheduled in Washington, DC on Wednesday to discuss funding for the Gateway Tunnel.

Brendan Quinn is a former Executive Director of the state Republican Party. He's now a private consultant. Bruce Gyory served as a senior adviser to two Democratic governors and now works at Manatt, Phelps and Phillips.
