Kevin Henderson has officially entered the race to replace Phil Povero as Ontario County sheriff.

Henderson currently serves as the county’s corner and as deputy.

He said his more than three decades of public service and the diversity of his roles will make him a strong candidate.

One of the biggest issues Henderson wants to tackle is the opioid crisis.

"I see what is happening. I've seen unfortunately the trend of our deaths going up consistently year after year,” he said. “My goal as sheriff is to make sure we provide the necessary services for those seeking treatment and continue to find avenues for that, but also make sure we're aggressive in enforcement."

He joins current Gates sergeant and former Victor town councilman Silvio Palmero in the race for Povero’s seat.
