GREECE, N.Y. — On a day of giving thanks, some are giving something else: blood.

The American Red Cross hosted a blood drive at its Greece location Thursday.

Tammy Heintzelman of Greece donated to give thanks for the blood donation made to help save her premature baby.

“When you have a baby that’s in need, and others give so that he could still be here and, 24 years later, thriving?" Heintzelman said. "If I could take a couple hours out of my day and give back to somebody else, it’s well worth it.”

They say donating blood embodies the true spirit of giving thanks – and looking out for each other.

“You’ve been in a car accident, you’ve had an illness," said phlebotomist Jessica Taddeo. "If someone didn’t do this for you, would you be here? Could you celebrate Thanksgiving again?”

“It doesn’t take a whole lot of time out of your life at all," said technician Paul Mendez. "It’s a beautiful thing to do. We’re all one people, we’re all one blood.”
