Zayden Philips is still in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after he was shot in the head Friday.
According to court documents, Zayden’s father, 36-year-old Charles Timothy Phillips shot his 2-year-old son in their Walnut Street home. The child is now suffering from a life-threatening brain injury, the documents state.
Phillips pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon over the weekend. He was home alone with his son at the time of the shooting.
Prosecutors say Phillips engaged in reckless behavior, which created a grave risk of death to his son.
The court documents also say Rochester Police Department officers found a 9 millimeter handgun in the Walnut Street home, loaded with nine rounds of ammunition.
Phillips remains in Monroe County Jail without bail due to a 2009 conviction of first-degree attempted robbery.
