BUFFALO, N.Y. — A big offseason trade for the Buffalo Sabres as they acquired forward Jeff Skinner from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Skinner posted 49 points on 24 goals last season.

In exchange Buffalo sends prospect Cliff Pu and three draft picks to Carolina.

Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill says the trade adds some much needed depth at forward.

"I respect his work ethic a lot off the ice. His professionalism. How he goes about handling himself off the ice. He comes to camp in great shape. A true professional. We've talked a lot about our group being more competitive and playing with more pace. That's Jeff's game right there," Botterill said.

Skinner is only under contract through next season.
