Voters from Pittsford to Livingston County have elected Republican Marjorie Byrnes to represent them in in New York State’s 133rd Assembly District, earning 55 percent of the votes to Baer's 42 percent.

Baer ran against Joe Errigo in 2016 but lost; Byrnes defeated Errigo in the Republican primary earlier this year.

Errigo remained on the ballot despite both losing the primary and facing bribery and wire fraud charges after accepting $5,500 to introduce legislation. He won just 3 percent of the vote.

Byrnes is a former prosecutor and assistant district attorney.

Baer has worked as a lawyer and social worker, serving as the associate commissioner for the state Office of Mental Health in the 1980s.

“I am so proud and humbled to be your assemblywoman-elect,” Byrnes said to supporters. “It was almost a year ago that I began this race, thinking and believing that the 133rd district needed a voice in the lower house of our government in Albany. As I campaigned, I gave my word that I would fight for our values and for our region. Tonight, I can tell you that whether you’re a college student, parent, farmer, small businessman, your voice will be heard in the halls of the legislature.”

Her challenger, Baer, said her defeat was despite winning in Monroe County.

"Apparently I could not effectively get the argument through to people in Livingston, I won in Monroe," she said. "But to be in the majority party, which I would have been, and to be able to make deals on behalf of the people of the district to make life better is really what I wanted to do. So I won't be able to do it, I hope she can do what she can, I wish her well, I love the district and will continue to help."
