State Assembly candidate Robin Wilt announced Friday afternoon that she would leave the race.

Wilt, who also was a congressional candidate this year, saw her campaign come under scrutiny over the revelation that her campaign manager served time for mail fraud.

The Brighton town board member lost the congressional primary last month in a bid to replace Rep. Louise Slaughter.

She said she will remain on the town board, inspired after watching a high school sophomore speak Wednesday night about racism she says she sees in the school district and community.

"I saw that my town is in need of attention, that my town is hurting, and that, no, the kids here aren't doing just fine," she said.

Wilt told reporters her decision has nothing to do with recent revelations about her campaign manager's criminal history or a pending residency lawsuit.
