Rochester Deputy Mayor, Cedric Alexander is stepping down at the end of the year.

The resignation comes as he heads to Florida to take care of his elderly mother. Alexander says despite rumors, he maintains a great relationship with Mayor Lovely Warren and has no bad feelings.

Alexander previously served as Rochester Police Chief and Deputy Chief from 2002 to 2005. He left to become Director of Public Safety in Dekalb County, Georgia and then came to Rochester in April 2017 to become Deputy Mayor.

He says he has no intention of looking for a political or law enforcement job in Florida.

Current Communications Director, James Smith will fill Alexander's position. He previously served as Deputy Monroe County Executive and Seneca County Manager.
