Something unfamiliar to the town of Sweden — a playground considered accessible by the Americans with Disabilities Act and all children.

“Inclusive play is something that our recreational department focuses on to bring people with every ability; every age group together in common spaces,” said Sweden Town Supervisor Kevin Johnson.

Johnson states that the playground will be a place where kids can interact, recreate and enjoy life, while also enjoying a quality life in Sweden.

The Town of Sweden and the Sweden Community Recreation Foundation have secured a grant of over $440,000 to build the new handicap-accessible playground, along with a 2,600 square-foot Lodge and a sidewalk to the canal in the 156-acre park.

The grant comes from the New York State Regional Economic Development Council.

Supervisor Johnson says the playground’s ribbon cutting ceremony will be Friday, October 26th.
