October through December is considered the peak for deer-vehicle crashes in NYS, according to AAA data.

There were 469 deer-related collisions in Monroe County back in 2016.

Heather Stanwix, a collision estimator at Hoselton Collision, says deer hits can happen virtually anywhere – residential parks, and commercial areas, especially.

“They can tend to run from out of nowhere so if you keep your speed limit down you can see them before they can see you,” she said.

Stanwix also explains that a deer hit repair can cost between $2,000-$5,000.

Though costly, the collision can also be deadly.

AAA urges drivers to pay attention to the road, and to avoid distractions while watching for deer.
