Vandals struck a downtown Rochester office building this morning, damaging the front of the Democrat and Chronicle building.

Graffiti was spray-painted across the front of the East Main Street Building.

The word "Liars" was painted on one of the windows, among other phrases.

Police are investigating and have not yet made any arrests.

A statement from Executive Editor Karen Magnuson appeared in the paper that said in part, "I realize all journalists appear to be under fire these days, but you couldn’t find a more dedicated group of people working extremely hard to cover their community."

A column published Friday states: "At the time of this writing, we do not know who the author is. But we do know that he or she is probably not a journalist. No effort was made to be accurate, fair or impartial. The story was also written in darkness by a masked person, whereas journalists value light and transparency above all else."
