GREECE, N.Y. — Imagine waiting 75 years to attend a first class reunion.

Bob Ginna knew what he had to do before attending Aquinas Institute's Reunion of the Class of 1943.

"I knew it would be a shock trying to recognize people, although I carefully studied our yearbook," said Ginna, whose family named is linked to the Rochester's area's most prominent nuclear power plant.

Ginna made the Class of '43 luncheon reunion at Bernard's Grove his first get-together with fellow Little Irish grads. The graduate of both Harvard and U of R grad who went on to be a television and film executive was glad he attended.

Aquinas Class of '43 has executives, attorneys, dentists and engineers amongst it numbers. Only a few remain.

Don Metzger was proud to represent. The one-time CEO of French's said he and his classmates remain bonded by their post-high school service in World War II.

"Most of us were in the service and I think when we came back, we were looking for the stupid friends that we had and the things that we did," Metzger said. "We enjoyed each other. We respect each other. And it doesn't matter what status in life you were, or weren't.  We all are at the same status."

Women like Marcia Stillman attended the reunion; widows of Class of '43 members who've made the Aquinas connection part of their lives.

"I know my husband would be happy I'm still attending," said Stillman.

"They knew each other before they were anybody famous, anybody special," said Aquinas Alumni Relations Officer Christine Lopuchowyca Grout.  "The joy in their faces when they see each other is just unbelievable."

It's a joy this group renews beyond its landmark reunions. Every third Tuesday of the month, those from the Class of '43 who can meet for lunch in Greece, do.
