ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New security measures for schools in Rochester have been set after a weekend brawl in the stands broke up a city high school football game.

Rochester police will now sign off on plans for any school event requiring security, like the Wilson vs. East High football game this past Saturday at Marina Auto Stadium.

It was stopped at halftime when students from other schools got into fights in the stadium. Three people were arrested.

Mayor Lovely Warren's office, leadership from the Rochester City School District, the superintendent of East High and Rochester Police Department staff met to develop a response to the incident Monday.

The result: schools hosting major events, such as sporting events or other activities on and off campus, must develop a security plan that gains RPD approval.

"In the stands are community members, alum, our own personal children. They all want to have a great experience," said East High School superintendent Dr. Shaun Nelms, part of the group that developed the response. "You have students who come to the event with the intent to cause harm and confusion. It is frustrating and disheartening."

Nelms met with East's football team Monday as well, informing them their game may be completed this week before the team's homecoming game Saturday.
