GENEVA, N.Y. — Police body cameras are getting a trial run in Geneva.

On each shift, one officer will learn how to use the camera and test it during regular police business and interactions with the public. The pilot program began Friday and will run for 30 days.

Advocates in the Geneva police force believe they will enhance community relations in a city which, six years ago, dealt with a police-involved fatal shooting.

"I think it helps tremendously with transparency but also with accountability, both on behalf of the officers that work for me and the public we're serving," said new police chief Michael Passalacqua, who wants the city of Geneva to approve full-time use of the technology beginning in 2019.
