FAIRPORT, N.Y. — A second-hand shop in Fairport is celebrating eight years of selling nuts, bolts, power tools and much more.

The volunteer-run Tool Thrift Shop is now the double the size in a new space at the Village Landing.

Every single item in the store was donated to the shop to resell.

Sale proceeds go to the Fairport Baptist Homes ministry called Senior Options for Independence to help seniors live safely at home.

"That’s what being a good human being is all about — helping others,” said volunteer Frank Jug. “That is all we are doing. We are just doing a good deed for the community and there is large percent of the population that really does need the help."

Since it opened in 2010, the Tool Thrift Shop has donated $400,000 to the senior program.

The shop is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Tool donations are tax-deductible.
