ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local food truck placed second at the Great New York State Fair this past weekend.

Roc City Sammich is a local food truck which boasts its sandwiches and signature wing-nutz.

“I ordered the wing nutz, the little chicken bites, and I mean, they’re heaven,” patron Michael Smith said.

They’ve been in business for six years now and enjoy being able to go all over the city.

"It’s all about community here," owner Joe Cario said. "Being part of the greater Rochester community, we get to go all different sorts of school districts, fundraisers, participate with all different kinds of groups.”

Their food continues to attract new customers...

“I like barbecue and wings and figured it was the place for me," Brighton eighth grader Henry Coke said, who tried the food truck at his school's food truck rodeo. "Very, very good. Yeah, very, very good.”

...and continues to bring back the old ones.

“They always have a line, pretty much wherever, the longest line out there,” Smith said, who has eaten from the food truck for two years now.

But after the Great New York State Fair this weekend, the business can boast about something else.

“We work hard all year round and to get the feedback from the folks that they like what we do makes it all worthwhile,” Cario said.

Their new southwest buttermilk fried chicken breast slider won second as the People’s Choice during their first competition ever at the state fair, voted on by thousands and beating 18 other food trucks from all over the state.

“I wanted to compete with something different, something out of our zone, just to try something new," Cario said. "And I was actually trying to see if it would fit well on our menu for next year, and it looked like people took a liking to it.”

For locals, it’s no surprise.

“It just comes back to the quality of your product," Smith said. "If you make a good quality product, people will come back for it. Especially food.”

Even a point of pride.

“I definitely think they should be here, just because it’s great food," Coke said. "And it’s just, really, really good.”

Which means more to the business than the shiny trophy.

“The fact that we’re able to place and give Rochester a showing, I think is great," Cario said. "But we’ll definitely be back, and I think we’ll change it up again and try something else new. Just to keep expanding, trying new things.”

And yes, curious customers can expect to see the item on the menu very soon.
