WEBSTER N.Y. — A new 5k race is designed to bring awareness to Rochester-area first responders with post traumatic stress disorder.

Ginny Gullo, a runner, breast cancer survivor and former Vice President of Operations of the Perinton Volunteer Ambulance, says the race is important for those first responders dealing with PTSD and their families.

“This is our first one and they are raising awareness of PTSD and a variety of things that first responders go through,” said Gullo. “You could be going through very stressful things that are happening and your family needs to understand that when you come home you may have seen or done things that are very stressful and it could affect your life.”

The 5K sponsored by Harris Corp took place at Webster Fireman's field and brought in 700 racers Friday evening.
