HAMLIN, N.Y. — An off-duty Monroe County jail deputy was involved in a fight Monday in which a shot was fired and one person taken to the hospital.

Just before 7 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic dispute involving an off-duty officer who fired his gun.

The incident occurred at a residence off Redman Road in Hamlin.

Multiple people, including adults and children, were at the home during the time.

The unnamed off-duty officer was visiting a woman, also unnamed, when her estranged husband came by and a confrontation broke out.

"The estranged husband came to the location. There was a confrontation, which included a pair of scissors,” said Sheriff Todd Baxter. “The suspect had a pair of scissors and the off-duty deputy challenged the suspect to drop the scissors.   There was a later confrontation where the suspect broke into the house via a door and while breaking into the house, he caused injury to his estranged wife."

The off-duty deputy shot one round. No one was hit. The estranged husband did happen to receive an injury to the head and had been transported to the hospital after leaving the scene. The wife received a few bruises.

The Sheriff’s office said the estranged husband will face charges.
