ROCHESTER N.Y. – Kids and their families were out Sunday morning for a run through Seneca Park.

The kickoff for the kid’s marathon is part of Rochester Marathon weekend.

Kids ran one mile Sunday. They are expected to complete five miles each week, for a total of 25 miles. At the end, they are going culminate on September 22 to do their final mile.

Cheryl Quinn of Webster was out with her grandson Leo Terranova.

She said, “I actually got addicted to running through fleet feet; through Ellen in the No Boundaries program about maybe five or six years ago and I’ve done half-marathons since then, and I am hoping to pass that enthusiasm down to my grandson.”

“She did,” Leo added.

Marathon officials say once a kid crosses the final finish line, they'll receive their official Kids Marathon finisher's medal.
