Rene Halligan made a harrowing escape Tuesday when she was plunged into Seneca Lake during a flash flood.

She made it out safely after being stranded for two-and-a-half hours but lost some of her personal items.

On Friday, Halligan’s purse and belongings washed up about a quarter mile from where she lived.

Three women found her bag clinging to a tree behind their cottage. Inside the purse was Halligan’s glasses, nurse ID and her keys.

The women who found her purse say after finding out she lost her home and two cars, they are just glad to be able to give her a piece of her life back.

"We’re kind of connected to her," said Stacy Friedman. "It's kind of weird that her story, to find out what happened to her and to see it on the news, and to see a piece of her washed up on our shoreline. I feel devastated with all these people, whatever happened to them."

The friends made plans to return Halligan’s items to her Friday.
