ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Gregory Jesmer moved slowly and appeared, at times, unsteady, as he stood before Monroe County Court Judge Doug Randall to hear the counts against him linked to the deadly attack on Marcia Morrison last month.

Jesmer pleaded not guilty to one count of first degree murder in the stabbing death of his 101-year old neighbor. The attack took place in the victim's apartment on Green Knolls Drive in Rochester.

Morrison knew Jesmer and often helped him with cash. Investigators believe Jesmer attacked Morrison after asking for assistance again.

He was taken into custody after he was questioned for approaching a 13-year old girl who also lived in the same apartment complex in the city's south side. Police say he tried to lure the girl into his apartment.

Jesmer was later arrested for Morrison's death. He pleaded not guilty to two counts linked to that incident.

"It's hard to process for all of us. This indictment covers the most vulnerable in our community, a 101-year-old woman as well as a child,” said Assistant District Attorney Monica O’Brien. “I would note there are witnesses involved that have helped her and did step in and we're obviously very thankful that someone was willing to do that."

The judge granted a six-month order of protection against Jesmer. It orders him to stay away from the 13-year-old girl he's accused of attempting to lure to his apartment.

Jesmer’s trial is set to start on January 2.
