A dog was shot by Rochester police Saturday morning after they say it bit one of their officers on the leg.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Bauer Street.

Police say they were attempting to take in a suspect at a domestic incident there, when the man allegedly released two dogs on the officers. They say one of those dogs bit an officer in the leg. That's when he fired at the dog.

The officer was treated at Highland Hospital for a minor injury. The dog was taken in by animal control and is believed to have lived.
