The Rochester Police Department is conducting an investigation after the discovery of a body on Weld Street.

RPD confirmed that officers located a body in the backyard of a house where the victim lived.

Officials are calling it an unattended death investigation. 

The victim has not been identified.

 

 

 

 

A man who says he's the son of the victim told Spectrum News reporter Melanie Johnson that his mother was stabbed to death.
 
Neighbors were shocked by the discovery. Joyce Pettway was there when the body was found. 
 
"Everybody knew her, she was just a good person. She loved to play and crack jokes. She was an awesome person," said Pettway. "She didn't deserve to die like this, she didn't."
 
Major Crimes Unit and the Medical Examiner's Office are asissting the investigation.
