Drivers from around the world revved their engines to compete in a 2,300 mile race starting in Buffalo.

Racers embarked on a nine day adventure winding through New England and finishing in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The "Great Race" is a time, speed and distance rally.

Racers are given specific instructions and scored at secret check points. If a second over or under the time point, the driver is penalized. Like golf, the driver with the lowest points wins.

"My job is to keep us on exactly the appropriate speeds,” said driver Peter Brown. “His job is to keep track when we lose speed, gain speed or when we stop or accelerate because the instructions will tell us to do 25 mph through a stop sign and that's impossible to do because you have to slow down. It's all done with stop watches and a very accurate speedometer.    "

The winner will take home $150,000. You can cheer on the drivers at their next pit stop in Fairport, just east of Rochester.
