Primary day is just a few weeks away, and one of the Democratic candidates for the 24th Congressional District is shoring up support.

Dana Balter was at the Clay Democratic Committee’s annual picnic at the town’s Central Park Thursday. She's facing off against Juanita Perez Williams for the party's nomination to run against incumbent Republican John Katko.

Balter says she sees the race as a way to learn and grow.

"We learn more when we talk to people who don't agree with us," Balter said. "And part of what is going to make me a better representative for Central and Western New York is taking the time to sit with and talk with and listen to people who have different perspectives than I do."

The Democratic primary is set for Tuesday, June 26.
