Drug addiction continues to impact communities nationwide. Authorities in Steuben County have spent the last few months trying to tackle it by focusing on the source.

In a sweeping operation, 10 people are in custody in connection with drug trafficking. This comes as law enforcement still searches for an additional nine suspects. It’s the final phase of 'Operation Safe Summer,' which has led to 26 indictments.

The investigation started in February. Thursday morning, more than 50 members of law enforcement from five different agencies were used in various raids. A majority of the arrests were in the village of Bath. The indictments include both minor and major charges. Some of those arrested included violent felons - and many are not local.

“A number of these folks are coming out of the Rochester area and bringing drugs into our community," said District Attorney Brooks Baker. "Some of it is homegrown as well. We have some methamphetamine people here who are making methamphetamines here, so it’s not a problem that exists exclusively outside Steuben County, but our narcotics are coming -- in this particular sweep -- we’re dealing with folks coming from the Rochester area."

The suspects are all being held at the Steuben County Jail without bail. The majority of the arraignments are still pending.
