ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than 200 people gathered at the Saint Gregory Church on Union Street in Marion to remember Selena Hidalgo Calderon, the 18-year-old migrant worker found dead in Wayne County.

The Workers Center of Central New York says it was one of several remembrance events being held for her.

"There was definitely a lot of, I think, support that we all go through that service of reaching out to our faith, whatever that might be and trying to make sense of the completely illogical nature of this situation," said Sara Curtis, program coordinator for Workers Center of Central New York.

Novenario-nine includes nine days of prayer which helps guide the soul of the deceased person to the next life.

The search for Selena's son, 14-month-old Owen Hidalgo Calderon, was called off Sunday after weeks of efforts from local agencies and volunteers.
