The Genesee County District Attorney's Office announced the indictment of three people following a shooting and a fatal stabbing last week in the City of Batavia.

Nathaniel Wilson Jr., 30, is charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of Terry Toote on May 17.

Prosecutors say the incident started with a fight between two groups and then escalated when 17-year-old Samuel Blackshear shot Wilson. Police say Wilson then stabbed Toote in the chest. Toote was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

"I don't know if I'm going to say it was gang related. There had been some confrontations prior to this. It just seemed to be a situation that was brewing between these two groups of people," said Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman.

Blackshear is charged with assault, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon. A third defendant, 48-year-old Jennifer Urvizu-Hanlon, faces weapons charges for allegedly providing the gun to Blackshear. All three remain jailed.
