PITTSFORD, N.Y. — It's being billed as the "Y" of the future and it's taking shape in Pittsford.

A groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning to officially announce construction of the YMCA of Greater Rochester's newest branch.

The 140,000 square-foot facility is being built on 20-acres at the corner of Clover Street and Jeffersosn road.

It will be one of the largest YMCAs in the country and will serve as a model for its integration of health and wellness.

"We're involving all kinds of partners: A childcare center, a community partnership with the U of R, a senior center, things that just aren't the gym and the pool at the Y," said George Romell, YMCA President and CEO. "We know the Y is integral to people and their quality of life from all over this region."

When the Pittsford YMCA opens in October of 2019, it will house a UR Medicine Wellness Hub with medical personnel.
