HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. — More than half of the students at the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School were absent Friday after the school received a threat of school violence. All schools in the Honeoye Falls-Lima School District will be on lockdown because of a threatening message found Wednesday in a stall inside of a boys' bathroom at the high school.

There are a number of Monroe county sheriff's deputies at the school Friday.

The district confirmed that 460 high schools students did not come to school Friday. That's about 60 percent of the 768 students enrolled at the high school.

“This disruption to our school day is something we take exceptionally seriously and any threat to any one has to be taken seriously, said Superintendent Gene Mancuso. "Our sheriff’s partners will be deployed within the high school and across the district and entry to our high school will be restricted to known persons only."

Students brought the threat to the school’s attention.

Mancuso says a number of students did not report to school Thursday and were kept home by their parents because of the threat of a shooting.

The district is working with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office to conduct interviews and comb through surveillance footage.

“We go through training for active shooter situations at the schools and other commercial places so they're familiar with what they have to do no matter what the situation may be,” said Captain Paul Delella, Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff deputies will also be on campus Friday.
